Gavin bought his first Siberian Husky named
“Yukon” in 1995. Not long after that while doing some basic
math, he realized that more dogs meant fun on the sled runners, so more
dogs it was!
After a brief stint of sprint racing, Gavin decided to open a dog sled touring business in the Ottawa area. For three seasons (2001 to 2004), Trail Dancer Sleddog Adventures provided half- and full-day outings, as well as overnight tours where customers drove their own team. He enjoyed three wonderful seasons with customers from all over the world, including tours for the Govenour General of Canada. Despite the rewards of touring, Gavin finally realized that long-distance racing was where his heart was. So in 2005, the journey of building a long distance kennel began. The dogs in his kennel now are the base of this team. Gavin’s goals are to keep happy healthy dogs, to have a confident competitive team at whatever race he decides to enter, and to also fulfill his long-time dream of finishing the Yukon Quest (A goal for 2012). Gavin is a General contractor and has been a carpenter for over 20 years. He also builds high quality custom dog boxes for mushers and canine enthusiasts all over North America. |
