Above and beyond the huge cost of keeping a competitive long distance sleddog kennel (ie.dog food, vet bills etc.) is the ever rising cost of participating in the races themselves.
Costs such as:
- Race entry, which is about $1.50/mile
- Dog booties, $4/dog per 100 miles of trail x 12 - 16 dogs = $48 - $64/100 miles of racing
- Runner plastic for sled $45 per set. 4 - 6 pairs per 250 mile race=$180 - $270
- Traveling expenses (ie: Fuel for truck, motel, meals for handlers, etc) = $1000 - $3000 per race
- Food drops and supplies (Medical for dogs, snacks and food, batteries for headlamps and GPS, food for musher) = $100's per race
All these costs are just for the Qualifing races such as the
CAN AM 250,
UP200,
BEARGREASE 400 and the
Quest 300.
Costs for the
Yukon Quest and the
Iditarod is in the thousands!
In order to meet these requirements, I invite you to join Team Trail Dancer to help us reach our goal of becoming the first dog musher and team from Canada's nations capital to run the Yukon Quest.
